Maine Coon Cat Gold Color
Originally, Main Coons came from the state of Maine as a natural breed (landrace). Maine Coon cats have thick hair, though not as thick as that of the Angora cat. It is commonly colored like a brown tabby with a large bottle-brush tail. In fact, Maine Coons are considered to be one of the biggest breeds of domestic cats. They were very popular in the United States in the 19th century but were overshadowed by the Persians until they were thought to be extinct in the 1950s. But Main Coon cat lovers campaigned for preserving the breed until Maine Coons once again became popular. They are now the second most popular cat breed, second to the Persian. Dewey the cat, although not officially a Maine Coon, looks like one.
