Popularly known
as “Maru the box Cat”, Maru has long become a household name in countless pet
circles in the world.
Hailing from the
Land of the Rising Sun, Maru is a male Scottish Fold cat, whose love for boxes
big or small is as tenacious as the love his owner affords to him.
Born on May in
2007, Maru’s rise to fame started with a simple YouTube video uploaded by his
master, who simply had wanted to share to the world just how silly Maru can be
when it comes to “dealing” with boxes.
As of last year,
the YouTube Channel hosting his videos had been viewed for more than 200
million times – proving to one and all that he simply is one of the world’s top
internet celebrities.
Though it has to
be said that Maru is not the only cat in the world who has a peculiar
fascination with boxes, his silly antics and approach to them – particularly
his approach with small boxes that are certainly smaller than his large frame –
have been particularly cute and endearing to many.
As a testament
to just how popular he is, a DVD entitled “I am Maru” was launched in 2009,
matched with a companion book bearing the same name. In 2011, a follow up book
was published, following after the hit “Maru Desu” DVD and book which were
launched and released in 2010.
