Great Pyrenees
Great Pyrenees, also known as Pyrenean Mountain Dog (outside North America), were primarily guardians of livestock, such as sheep, cows and others. The name comes from the Pyreenes Mountains between France and Spain, where the Basque people are. The Pyrenean Mountain dog was developed to guard sheep with little difficulty in the mountainous slopes. Their thick, white double coats protected them from the snow and also against wolf attacks.

Their guarding tendency is carried over the household when kept as a household pet. They will become territorial and protective of the family when something threatening comes along. Since they are large, plus their tendency to be active at night, make them impressive guardian dogs.

The Great Pyrenees breed has a large body size. Great Pyrenees For adult males grow to 110-120 pounds (50-54 kg) and 27-32 inches (69-81 cm), and to Great Pyrenees adult females reach 80-90 pounds (36-41 kg) and 25-29 inches (63-74 cm). Great Pyrenees live until 10-17 years of age.
